Both the Howling Mob Society and the Free Ride recycled bicycle cooperative received $1000 awards from the Pittsburgh Creativity Project this month! The awards were not part of the typical application process by which most individuals and organizations receive grants - rather, projects were awarded based on accomplishments and work which they are already doing on their own. From the acknowledgment letter:
"This award is not tied to a competitive application process. The Pittsburgh Creativity Project views its constituency as agents who contribute vibrant cultural works, venues, programs, and services to our region, and recognizes your ability to make thoughtful and effective decisions regarding the use of monetary and other resources. The Pittsburgh Creativity Project intends to tell this story.
The Pittsburgh Creativity Project is an artist-led pilot initiative serving local creative professionals and is housed within the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry in the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University. It is funded by The Pittsburgh Foundation and Heinz Endowments."
